Our Newest Bible Study
Our newest Bible study began at the end of October when I was visited by a man in his late 70s one morning. It's not unusual for strangers to just pop in for a visit here in Malawi, but this was a little different because of the man's age. After greeting each other, I asked why he was coming for the visit. He explained that he wanted to take the word of God to his village.
The next week, I made the seven-mile drive to the man's village to discuss with the men and women about how our Bible studies work and what to expect. The drive through the bush roads is always rough, but I was shocked when I realized that the seven-mile drive took me thirty minutes and would have taken three hours for Mr. Manda, the older man, to walk to our house the week before.
This new Bible study is getting off to a good start. Each Wednesday, we meet with the men and women, start by singing Christian songs in their language of Tumbuka, and then break up into men's and women's groups. Bible studies are not a quick one-hour-a-week undertaking. People are hungry for truth and knowledge, and these studies last up to three and a half hours, only stopping because we set a stopping point.
A Wonderful Problem
We now have a huge problem with our work here in Malawi. It's a wonderful blessing of a problem! We now have multiple Bible studies happening each day, Monday through Friday. Deb and I can't lead all these studies, and we have begun training leaders to go and duplicate what they have learned through us.
Can I ask you to join us in this work through your prayers? Pray for the men and women who have currently said yes to the call of being group leaders. And pray that two more people from each of the current Bible studies will grow and mature in their faith so that they can start Bible studies in the areas that surround their villages.
